How to fill it out
- Fill it out at mobilization, and update it at every phase change.
- List exactly what is worth stealing on site right now.
- Name who holds gate keys and who may be on site after hours.
- Plan extra coverage for holiday shutdowns and long weekends.
- Note when fire watch is required — impairments, hot work or a permit condition.
Why every jobsite needs a security plan
Theft and vandalism hit hardest after hours, on weekends and during holiday shutdowns, when the site sits empty. A written plan makes everyone — the GC, subs and security — agree on what is protected, who has access, and what happens when something goes wrong.
What security officers do on a construction site
- Patrol the perimeter, equipment yard, conex boxes and building entries on a set interval.
- Check gates, fencing and locks, and log anything open or damaged.
- Deter and respond to trespassers, and call police when needed.
- Watch for fire and stand fire watch where required.
- Write a log every shift so the superintendent knows what happened overnight.
